Whatever Wednesday - Artist Paints with Bacteria - July 6, 2016

On Huffington Post’s website, writer Jacqueline Howard wrote the article “This Artist Paints With Bacteria, And It’s Strangely Beautiful”, to explain the works of Maria Peñil Cobo. Penil grows bacteria along with microbiologist,Dr. Mehmet Berkmen, to create a different form of art. Although most artist look to nature that the average can see clearly, Penil uses a different form of nature, microbiology. According to Howard, Penil will grow the organism by using average day items like house keys and kissing a dish. Howard explains that the bacteria will not always turn colorful and that the organisms do not eat or behave the same,as said by Penil.
This article is important because of the creativity that feeds the human mind. Although this article and artist may create all sorts of public emotion, it is creating thought. The average person does not look at bacteria and think “How cool” or “that is so beautiful”.This form of art with the ecosystem creates a different look on (what some might call disgusting) the world and evokes thoughts on people to take a closer look at the world around us.
